Oasis Diary - October 2002

On the Event of Our Second Cascabel Anniversary
Phillipe, Scarlet MacawAs Director and spokesperson for The Oasis Sanctuary, I realize that a lot of the credit for the good works and success of The Oasis Sanctuary falls on me.

But this is incorrect and simplifies things too much....

The Oasis Sanctuary could never have come into existence.... could never have taken in and cared for the vast numbers of birds we have seen over these past six or so years.... could never have purchased property and relocated.... could not be building flights.... could not be loving and feeding and cleaning and enriching the lives of the almost 400 birds now in our care if not for the dedication and back breaking, soul enriching work of a number of incredible people I am fortunate enough to call my friends and family.

Sassy, Moluccan CockatooJasmine, Double-Yellow Headed Amazon Some of these people you may know.... from the Internet, or the phone, from the help they have given you and yours. Others remain in the background, quietly working day in and day out. Some were with The Oasis for a short time and have moved on.... hopefully having learning a bit about these beautiful, endangered creatures we are entrusted with. Still others have given the life-blood of any non-profit, their hard-earned dollars to ensure the continued care these fabulous birds need.
I feel blessed to know you all, those I see every day and those I may never have the privilege of meeting.... But to all of you, I owe a great debt.

On this, the second anniversary of our move to Cascabel Arizona, I thank you all.

Sybil Erden, Director
